Museum of Contemporary Art Denver

On the rooftop deck, where mirrored walls and grasshoppers held our interest for a bit. Just how does a grasshopper get that high up?

On Sunday I went with a friends down to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver. It is so odd going back to Denver and not knowing anything about the city at all - I used to live in Denver a lot of years back - and I've forgotten it all. Of course it has changed tons. There are many art galleries, and this new museum too.

Very cool place, and oooh so wonderful architecture with tall tall walls and diffused lighting, and this great skylight walkway which leads to the rooftop cafe and temporary pigeon coop. My friends and I had great fun with them posing on the walkway above while I snapped shots from the first floor looking skyward. Just remember this when you wear your skirt to the museum.

And the pigeons, who are part of an art piece - performance piece I suppose - are available for patrons to take home and release. They of course return back to their roost at MCAD. We drove ours to the Arvada Center of the Arts, 6-7 miles away, and "Baby" flew home in 27 minutes. Baby is the pigeon with white on his face.

The Arvada Center for the Arts was also pretty good, with a substantial exhibition space and additional spaces throughout the performance hallways, including a permanent installation of a Vito Acconci's dirt wall. They have a top-notch ceramics studio there as well, for artists looking for a place to work.
