... I'll go with One Bun, as in Feeding Two Birds with One Bun. It fits better with my life mantra that way.
Anyway, I am reading I'd Rather Be in the Studio, The Artist's No-Excuse Guide to Self-Promotion by Alyson B. Stanfield. Yep, I am hitting the streets looking for my audience.
I've spent all summer, (to the tune of six hours a day, six days a week) in my fabulous studio at the Ft Collins Museum of Art (203), and have enjoyed every moment of it. I LOVE living in Ft Collins. I LOVE creating in my studio, and LOVE all the fabulous people who trot through on First Friday Gallery Walk and in between. (Thanks for visiting!) And now it is time to get out there and find venues for all that fabulous art I've been creating. And so...
Bird One: is this lovely blog, which as of late has been neglected (see above).
Bird Two: is my artist statement.
Alyson has some exercises which help stimulate in writing the statement. We, artists, uniformly balk at writing these things. When you are visual it is difficult to put things into words. It's your process, and since it is so close to you, it's hard to see it, understand it, verbalize it.
1. The subjects and style I choose are __________ because ____________.
... abstract because they are an extension of my lifelong habit of doodling.
... abstract and organic because I paint from the right side of the brain, never planning ahead. I just choose a
color and begin.
... organic and spontaneous because they flow from the subconscious and express the non-physical. They translate color and form into dynamic patterns of energy.
... I choose to work in an organic and spontaneous way so that I can paint with a subconscious flow. I have always been intrigued by dynamics of energy captured through color and form.
How am I doing so far?
2. I am most inspired by__________.
... energetic patterns found in nature
... sacred geometry and fractals
... color + texture + pattern = energy, resonance
... energy which is also sound and movement and everything... where physics meets metaphysics
... negative space
... form that hints at there being more under the surface
... surface (visceral appeal) + under the surface (spirit)
Ah, it feels good to get out paper and pen and write (yes, by hand first). And Alyson is right, it does get the creative words flowing.

See this is what I am talking about! Pockets of energy bounce around in specific wavelengths that resonate up to the physical level, making things organize into patterns. Things take a physical form because of the energy inside. Everything, (color, patterns, sound) is as it is because of it's inherent energy. These yellow flowers form with their specific petals every time, orange lichen grows into patterns, even fractured rock splits along energetic lines.

Ooooo. I love seeing this, Bonnie! And I love that you're going to start paying more attention to your blog. You write beautifully and I look forward to reading more.
Thanks Alyson! Your book is a real inspiration! I've done a lot of artist statements, but your approach has gotten me to realize a deeper, truer, clearer statement. Which I'm still working on, of course....
