East to West Transition

From salt marshes in New Jersey to crop fields throughout the midwest,

...to ranch lands, all wide open spaces with long vistas and lonely rest stops. Here is a kinetic sculpture at a rest stop in Nebraska, where the wind howls consistently.

And then in eastern Nebraska, near Wyoming, the landscape changes to dry lands with rock formations...

... and indeed the buffalo do roam, but not freely. Here is one of several sculptures set on hillsides alone the interstate, a reminder that this land once was owned by the wild beasts. Now the buffalo roam within limits of ranches .

All in all a good trip. With so many miles of landscape flying by at highway speeds, my eyes are trying to readjust to being still. I am making my way through Ft Collins, getting my bearings and learning new routines. Looks hopeful!

Thanks t! But I think it really hasn't sunk in yet... everything is still new. We'll see if I start missing that big beach! I think I may have a chocolate peanut-butter coconut frozen desert just to get the feel back.
