Remnants of Life on the Beach

From upper left: channeled whelk, crab shells, sea urchin, sea urchin, seagull skeleton, channeled whelk, channeled whelk, leaf, horseshoe crab burrowed in sand.

Last night here was the biggest, baddest storm yet, and the tides were extra high. Flooding everywhere, lots of tornados. But that did not stop me from heading out to celebrate my birthday with newfound friends. I am so fortunate to have found good friends here in such a short time.

Sadly, or partly sadly, I am wrapping things up here and planning my next move. The winds are shifting, and I am setting sail to my next destination in the next month. More on that in a bit.

But first, I've been going through old computer files, editing and reburning backups, and in the process reminding myself of other places and times. I found the collection of beach photos from one morning at low tide on the beach at Whidbey Island, WA. In just one morning I took over 500 hundred photos of gorgeous seaweeds and sea creatures. It is not the same here, but there have been a few great finds (besides the sand shots).

And so today, I have collected a set of live things I have found here this season. Very different, but they convey the character of this Atlantic Beach.
